About this collection
Seal Art Print: The Animal That Becomes Weightless
This seal art print is a single work — The Space by underwater photographer Anouska "Nush" Freedman. One piece, and an animal that only makes sense once you have seen it below the surface.
Why underwater seal photography is a different animal entirely
On land, a seal is an apology: heavy, awkward, hauled out on rock and going nowhere in a hurry. Underwater, the same animal is weightless and fast, spiralling and inverting through the water column for no reason we can point to other than that it can. Everything about them reads differently down there. The whiskers, which look ornamental in a photograph taken from a boat, are precision instruments — sensitive enough to follow the disturbance a fish left in the water after the fish has gone. And seals are curious about divers in a way most marine animals are not; they will come in close, upside down, and hold eye contact. Anouska Freedman, an underwater photographer and a cast member of Shipwreck Hunters Australia, works in exactly that register — in the water with the animal rather than above it.
One piece, and we'll say so
There is one seal wall art piece in this collection. We release in limited editions, and a single work standing on its own is more honest than a page padded out around it. The Space is made to order and handmade in Australia, and arrives with a certificate of authenticity. Choose Fine Art Paper or Museum Grade Canvas across six sizes, framed or unframed. 30% of profits from this piece goes to the conservation causes we work with.
Open The Space and use View in room to place it on your own wall at true scale before you decide — work with this much open water in it tends to want more wall than people expect. Order an Extra Large or larger and you'll choose a complimentary small print to go with it. From here, go deeper into Underwater and Water, or see the rest of Nush's work in Anouska Freedman.
Canvas or fine-art paper: which should I choose?
Stretched canvas gives a gallery depth with no frame and is the recommended finish. Hahnemühle Hemp paper gives a lightly textured, archival print for your own framing, or in our oak frame.
Which size suits my wall?
Above a two-seater sofa (180–210 cm) most collectors choose 26″ × 40″ or 20 × 30. Use “Find your piece” or the scale slide on any artwork.
How limited are the editions?
Each size is limited to 111 numbered prints and never reprinted.
How long does delivery take?
Made to order: produced in 3–5 business days, then 5–7 business days for shipping. Rolled prints ship free within Australia. Framed and stretched pieces are A$10 flat delivery per order.
