From Ollie Clarke: This poor little dude had a real time of it getting to the ocean! A seagull actually dropped him back onto the beach, giving him a second chance. After a couple of seconds getting over his flight, he began scrambling down the water to the ocean, being chased by more gulls, crabs and getting completely sand blasted by high winds. The shoreline is also covered sargassum at the moment, thanks to the cyclone that never was, and it maybe soft but looks like hard work for little turtles to get through! Eventually he worked is way through and into the water. Luckily it seems the gulls had been distracted further along the beach and I watched him swim off beyond the reef! \n \nJust one in a thousand of these little green turtle hatchlings will make it to adulthood. Their life cycle is just incredible, if they survive the mad dash to the ocean and get past all the predators in shallows, they disappear into the ocean open whilst they feed and grow. Then, once they’re big enough they’ll return to the reef and if they survive, after 20-30 years they’ll return to the beach they hatched to mate and nest. Incredible.
