A good golden tint on this leopard shark in the Ningaloo reef is highlighted in this photo by Brooke Pyke. There’s another species called leopard shark, but the spotted yellow gold color of this wonderful marine animal is just screaming “I’m the true leopard, you can call the land dweller ‘leopard cat’ instead.” It also seems that the sea bed has been littered with the shark’s spots.

These golden sharks (Stegostoma tigrinum) are in the Pacific southwest (Thailand, Andaman Sea, Australia) while their grayish cousins (Triakis semifasciata) can mostly be found in the Pacific northeast. Both species stay close to their local areas, so they don’t cohabitate.

From Brooke Pyke: I feel I am most at peace when following the most beautiful shark around the reef. Leopard sharks (also known as zebra sharks) are my favorite species to photograph. We are so lucky to encounter them occasionally on the Ningaloo. Documenting these animals is such a pleasure!
